How The Elements Intertwine to Create Your Unique Life Story
Storytelling is a tool we have used throughout our evolution to make sense of reality. Stories show us comparisons, reveal wisdom for overcoming challenges, and create a sense of community. Retelling events to other people enriches shared experiences. These narratives orchestrate our day-to-day lives. Many of these stories that influence us reside within the unconscious.
The universe offers us so much information each day that to be able to function in this reality we have to create various assumptions. Through the developmental years of childhood and adolescence, a multitude of stories accumulate that all together form our understanding of how the world works.
Using the elements fire, air, earth, and water, we can review these conscious and unconscious stories that are informing our perception of the world. Allowing us to take a fresh look and decide what we believe to be true and what is not truly serving our best life to unfold. This can support us in getting to the roots of difficult blocks when it comes to self-expression.
Becoming Who You Truly Are
The way that I teach the art of writing your life story is that each element informs a different aspect of your internal narrative. Over the timespan of childhood, adolescence, and adult life, there are a multitude of experiences. The idea of reviewing them all can seem entirely overwhelming. When using the structure of the elements, this becomes much easier to do.
Let’s look at the aspect of the life story that each element conveys.
Water Element - by connecting with water, you can do a deep dive into your memories. This element is a recorder within your body of all the experiences you have had throughout your life. As you connect with your inner water, you can access how various events in your life emotionally impacted you.
Fire Element - your life challenges and achievements are revealed when working with this element. You can see your inner strength shining through by recalling all that you have overcome in this life. Fire also connects you with the expanded web of your ancestral lineages to further understand why you have found certain aspects of life challenging.
Earth Element - connect with the earth when you desire to uncover more about your ingrained stories around core values. This encapsulates ideas about family, money, and community. By looking at this element, you can uncover what is rooting you in your life. These roots greatly inform what you perceive as physically desirable in your life.
Air Element - this element reveals your stories about how you feel about expressing yourself. Parts of your story may remain locked away forever because of beliefs that are held within the mind. Working with air supports you in feeling safe expanding your wings and sharing your empowering life story with the world.
As you journey through each element and reflect on the stories you hold within, it offers an opportunity to remove the narratives and beliefs that do not resonate with your true essence. This is much like walking into a garden to weed and remove certain plants to allow other ones to flourish.
Naturally, as you remove what is not in resonance with you, your true self has more space to flourish. When you embody more of what feels aligned and true for you, it becomes exquisitely exciting to share your unique life story with the world. What you have to share is impactful and beautiful. The elements are a medicine that can support you in unveiling this gift.
One Story With a Thousand Narratives
The art of storytelling has the power to turn people from victims into victors. There is never a single angle to view any life experience. When we realize this then it opens our awareness to see that it is an active choice of how we decide to speak to ourselves and express about our life to other people. How we choose to express ourselves essentially informs the future we create.
As an example, let’s say I experienced a series of unhealthy and painful romantic relationships. One way to narrate this could be to say that I am no good at relationships. I could say to myself that it is my fault, I have so many undesirable traits and when I share with my friends, I may say that I believe that I will never find love because it is just not working for me.
Another option is to take a step back from the experiences I have been having in relationships and reflect on what is unfolding. In my water, I may become aware of manipulative tendencies and then make the connection that my mother or grandmother showed the same types of behaviour. Furthermore, I could unveil in my earth a disempowering value around monetary wealth.
These observations with the elements can support me in seeing a larger picture of the truth of what is unfolding in my life. This has the power to unlock self-compassion because I can begin to observe that what is happening in my life is linked to my upbringing and possibly my ancestry. This takes away the poison in the telling of the story that makes everything my fault.
Instead, it becomes natural to see that it is no one's fault, it is simply a vast network of circumstances coming together to create a particular human experience. The next step I can take then to shift the way I tell the story is to look at the patterns and decipher what it is that I have been learning.
Looking at the lessons in life events opens the opportunity to switch from I am bad at something to I am getting better and better at this aspect of life. With the relationship example, you could be learning how to value yourself or create healthy boundaries. This may be harder for you than other people in your family because you have chosen to clean out some toxicity that you inherited.
These reframes can lift you up and give you credit where it is due because you have overcome many things in your life. The learning that you have attained from each life experience is vast. Being conscious of how you narrate your life story ensures that you are expressing honestly all that you are. Many people want to hear that beautiful rendition of your human experience.
Defining Your Storyline
The intertwining of fire, air, earth, and water to create your unique life story shines a light on your past, present, and future. How you view your past will influence how you feel in the present, which will, in turn, determine what you create in your future. You are a master creator of your reality through each thought you have and the story you share.
What kind of storyline would feel empowering for you when looking at your past?
How can you culminate those past experiences to create an exciting narrative for your future?
Three layers of time and four foundational elements surprisingly have the potential to unlock new worlds of self-expression for you. Using reflective practices such as meditation and writing can support you in unpacking unconscious stories that are influencing your reality. As you embark on rewriting those stories, you will become a magnet for new experiences in your life.
Everything that you need for the creation of your world is already held within you. The secrets are present in the journey you have gone through in this life. Those triumphs and defeats bring colour to your storyline and shine a light on your inner source of incredible power. You can choose how to define the storyline.
It is not possible to control everything that happens in life. However, we do have complete control over how we choose to perceive it. This choice can result in us feeling down in the dumps or it can guide us to new heights of unimaginable success. When defining a storyline, I like to view the story as a medicine.
Each person’s story is a unique medicine that can support other people on their journey. By viewing my story in this way, I see working on creating an authentic, honest, and uplifting narrative as a way of giving a gift to the world. Sharing and expressing myself becomes an act of service to my community.
Furthermore, when I define the storyline as something that energizes me rather than drains me, I never run out of things to express. If you are a songwriter, the words will flow, or if you are a theatre director, various plays will be accessible. Removing self-criticism and victim mentality clears the channel of your self-expression.
