Awakening Your Inner Song: The Power of Sound Healing

Air

Have you been feeling like there is more that you desire to share in life?

Possibly, you wish your intimate relationships would deepen or your work would reach new heights if you could express your inner truth with more ease.

The air element teaches us that we each have a unique song to sing in life. It can seem like in the world today there is not enough space for everyone's voice to be heard. Various hierarchical structures created by money or certain social media platforms can dampen the enthusiasm for everyone within a community to share their voice.

Another way of looking at self-expression in large communities is to see everyone's expression as a contribution to a collective song. If one person sings, it adds a frequency or tone. Each person has a unique frequency. Therefore, when many people awaken their inner song and share it with the world, the melody of our existence together becomes richer.

This shift in perspective changes the narrative from there is not enough space to express myself to it is my duty to contribute by the very nature of being alive to add more colour to this world. Working with air medicine using sound healing techniques can support you in awakening this new way of seeing your expression.

What is Sound Healing?

The journey of using sound to heal starts with becoming aware of what you hear around you. If you live in the countryside, you may regularly listen to birdsong, or if you are in the city, you may hear your neighbours or music. The kinds of sounds that surround us each day have an impact on the throat and heart chakras within the body.

It is healing for these parts of the body to be in natural settings such as forests and beaches because the air around you is undisturbed by the frequencies of machinery, cars, or other people. Sitting in a forest listening to the sounds of wind rustling through the trees or moving water is a powerful healing soundtrack that supports the relaxation of your nervous system.

Sound healing encompasses the noises in the world around you as well as the sounds that you can create. Humming, singing, and speaking allow energy to move through you. You can release blockages from the heart and throat in the body by connecting with the breath and making various sounds to shift the energy within your body.

As you remove blockages from within your body using sound, you will then notice that it is easier to express yourself. Sound healing takes you out of the mind and into the physical experience you are having. Removing inner blockages can bring limiting beliefs and stories that have been holding you back from awakening your inner song into the light of your conscious awareness.

How to Heal with Sound

  • Listen

Working with sound begins by becoming conscious of the noise you expose yourself to throughout your day. When you hear a sound in your environment, notice what kind of reaction you have within your body. If you are struggling to concentrate or express yourself, the air medicine around you may be disturbing you. Closing windows or doors to minimize noise can help with external interference. Nature sounds, frequency soundtracks, and various kinds of music can help to move the energy within you in a way that is supportive of what you are doing.

  • Breath

Bring your awareness into your body using your breath. How the air flows in and out of the body holds many of the secrets as to why you are expressing yourself in the way that you are. If the breath is shallow, you may be experiencing fear or stress. More expanded breathing reveals that you feel safe and relaxed. If you are attempting to paint or write but the energy is blocked, close your eyes and focus on expanding your inhale and slowing down your exhale while breathing. You can place your hands on your abdomen as well to encourage your breath to come into the lower parts of the body. This will assist you in balancing the voice of your mind with the voice of your heart.

  • Hum

After becoming conscious of the air in the world within and around you, the next supportive step you can take is to practice making sound. With your mouth closed, take a deep inhale and as you exhale begin to hum. Close your eyes to focus on the sensations you feel within your body. You can play with humming at high or low frequencies. Allow the movement of the sound to clear away any blockages within your chest and throat. While doing this type of bodywork, you may also feel called to move your body with stretching or dancing to further support yourself.

Awakening Your Inner Song

This three-step practice for sound healing can be done anywhere and in a short space of time if needed. It is helpful to pause to reset when noticing blockages arising when expressing yourself to avoid negative self-talk from taking over. Problems with expressing yourself can set the mind in motion creating disempowering stories.

If you are struggling to finish that piece of writing or have that conversation with your spouse, using sound healing can get the energy moving within you. As you focus on working with the energy of your body, your mind will be more quiet in the process. Left unchecked, the mind can lead us to give up in moments when it is important to share what is on our hearts.

What you have to share is a gift for your community. Contributing what wants to be expressed through you to the people around you naturally enriches life for everyone. If you have been putting off learning that instrument or publishing your work, remember that the frequency you hold within is a unique contribution to the collective song we are all singing together.

When you share, the people around you can see themselves more clearly, and possibly, they learn new things by listening to your life song however you feel called to express it. If you find yourself shying away for one reason or another, come back to your body. Use sound healing to release blockages that are arising.

Oftentimes, in the moments when you are expressing your inner song, you may not know why you feel called to share things in a certain way or at a particular time. This contributes to the magic of the unfolding of life. When we trust and sing our inner song as and when we feel called, it can stimulate many synchronicities to unfold in life.

What you are sharing may be the perfect answer to another person’s question, or it may describe how they feel in a clear way, supporting them in creating a deeper connection with themselves. We are all medicine for each other. This healing awakening power is unlocked when you surrender and share your inner song.
